Little Brother

In Australia I read Cory Doctorow's Little Brother, an advance reading copy of which was kindly lent to me by Farah Mendlesohn, who has reviewed it. It's a very good book, as everyone is saying.

It's also a useful book. Remember the scene in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress where Manny sketches a structure for an underground organization? Now imagine that, done properly. With X-boxes.

I went and read a few of the reviews and, based on yours and their recommendations, I believe I will have to purchase or borrow a copy as soon as humanly possible.

Welcome back, Mr. MacLeod - I've been running out of blog-entry comment-sections to argue politics in!

Since I'm already a Cory Doctorow reader (and MacLeod, of course, just finished 'The Cassini Division'), I'll get to it eventually. I'm a slow reader. So many books...

The only thing I remember of 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress' is Cheyenne Mountain getting pummeled, which I found pretty amusing since I had moved to Colorado Springs a few months before reading it.

I might get that for my nieces when they're a bit older - so long as there's none of that 'libertarian' nonsense in it.

Any objections to this?

No objections to *that*, no, merely to the silly American people who have hijacked the name of 'libertarian' for their own fell purposes.

I'll read the book as soon as possible and will tell my old high school (NYC) friends about it. They will think that I would like to Corrupt The Youth.
The Strange Horizons review is excellent. Although I often skim reviews, this one forced me to read every word.

But the point of "that" was that "silly American" libertarianism logically leads to left-libertarianism.

Great article you got here. It would be great to read a bit more concerning this matter. Thanks for giving this material.
