Ken MacLeod's comments.
The title comes from two quotes:
“Work as if you lived in the early days of a better nation.”—Alasdair Gray.
“If these are the early days of a better nation, there must be hope, and a hope of peace is as good as any, and far better than a hollow hoarding greed or the dry lies of an aweless god.”—Graydon Saunders

Another reminiscence
An Audioboo of me at the Edinburgh Book Festival yesterday.
At about the same time a young 'MacLeodCartoons' went around in toy police car opening and closing one hand on top of his head, shouting 'Flashing, Flashing, Flashing.' Now I thought that was a flash of the genius yet to come! Still do! Edwin Morgan was my English Professor too at Glasgow University 1975-1978!
That's a great story about Morgan - what a fantastic impression to leave on first-year students!
