Ken MacLeod's comments.
The title comes from two quotes:
“If these are the early days of a better nation, there must be hope, and a hope of peace is as good as any, and far better than a hollow hoarding greed or the dry lies of an aweless god.”—Graydon Saunders

The Ego and His Ain
I've written a review of a new book on Max Stirner, Max Stirner's Dialectical Egoism: A New Interpretation, by John F. Welsh (Lexington Books, 2010) for the first issue (pdf) of the online journal i-Studies. The issue leads with an article by the distinguished Hegelian scholar Lawrence Stepelevich, and concludes with a rethink of egoism (and a wry reflection of the impact of fatherhood on this position) by Svein Olav Nyberg, which he has conveniently posted on his new blog.
No mention of the Glasgow anarcho-syndicalists of the 1940s who took Stirner's "Union of Egos" to mean a literal "One Big Union"?

No, Iain, but I'm sure Svein Olav would look with interest on any contribution you might want to put forward for a future issue.
ReplyDeleteI would indeed be interested.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post mate. You almost covered everything. Cool hints and collection of variety of options and layouts. Very nice one .
ReplyDeleteCould you just tell me whether Sid Parker is still alive, or has he gone on to drink and debate at the Hippel's Weinstube in the sky? I wrote to Sid in the early 1990s just after I became acquainted with Saint Max and was naturally wondering if he was still with us. In any case, last year Ardent Press in the US published what amounts to a compendium of Parker's hard-to-find egoist publications from the 1970s and early '80s —

Greenbeast - Svein Olav Nyberg and others did their best to contact Sid and have concluded, sadly, that he has died.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link - Sid's writings should be more widely read.
